Tornado Hits Barnsdall, Bartlesville Areas

At least one person is dead and another missing after tornadoes and severe weather moved across Oklahoma. The death was reported near Barnsdall, north of Tulsa, where officials had declared a tornado emergency. Crews are said to be searching for another person who is still missing.

At least 30 to 40 homes in Barnsdall were left heavily damaged or destroyed. A nursing home in the community was also damaged and the residents moved to safety after the storm hit. The American Red Cross is providing help at a shelter that has been set up at the fairgrounds in Pawhuska. Roads into Barnsdall have been closed as emergency teams go through the community. It was the second time in the past month for a tornado to hit Barnsdall.

Heavy damage was also reported in Bartlesville where damage was reported at a Hampton Inn where some guests had to be rescued. Many homes and businesses also sustained damage in the storm. Schools in Bartlesville, Barnsdall and Hominy canceled classes due to damage or power outages. Damage is also being reported in several other areas around the state.
